Maria Caulfield MP and Cllr Isabelle Linington, Leader of the Conservative Group on Lewes District Council, have visited Saxonbury House in Lewes to see how the building have been transformed into new social housing for Lewes District.
The Lewes MP and Cllr Isabelle Linginton were given a tour of the building ahead of tenants moving in to the property, and discussed the project with council officers.
Saxonbury House, in Juggs Road Lewes, has stood empty for some years and now has been lovingly brought back to life to provide 12 flats to be let to members of the social housing register. The former Victorian property will now be six two-bed flats and six one-bed flats and is the first social housing built in Lewes in five years.
The visit came on the day that the government announced £946.8 million to help build 14,663 affordable and social housing units across the south east.
Maria Caulfield MP said “The Saxonbury House project to bring a disused building back into use for much needed social housing is very much welcomed and will help alleviate some of the pressures for social housing within Lewes District. This is an excellent use of a property that may not otherwise have been used. The government is committed to helping people on to the housing ladder and will be investing £946.8 million to build 14,663 homes that are affordable or for social housing.”
