Lewes MP Maria Caulfield & Lewes Conservatives have welcomed the Chancellor’s Budget announcement of £150,000 from the Conservative government’s Levelling Up Fund for Lewes District.
Maria Caulfield MP is hoping that Lewes District Council will be able to use this funding to continue the regeneration of Newhaven, that is already seeing millions of pounds of Conservative government funding being pumped in to boost the local economy and regenerate the town.
The is part of the Conservative government’s £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund, which was announced at the Spending Review, and will invest in local infrastructure that has a visible impact on people and their communities. It will run from 2021/22 to 2024/25, and drive regeneration in places in need, those facing particular challenges, and areas that have received less government investment in recent years.
Maria Caulfield MP said “I am constantly banging the drum for Newhaven in Westminster, making clear to the Chancellor and other Ministers that our town needs investment to enable the much needed regeneration. The government have committed millions of pounds to Newhaven already as part of the Town Deal, the Future High Streets Fund, and more. This additional £150,000 being given to Lewes District Council could really help boost some of the regeneration projects happening in Newhaven and I hope that Lewes District Council will choose to spend it here in Newhaven.”
“I am grateful to the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for this additional funding for our area.”
