Cllr Sam Adeniji is urging residents to report vandalism on Exceat Bridge lights following repeated incidents.
A number of instances of vandalism directed at the temporary traffic lights at Exceat Bridge between Seaford and East Dean have occurred. The batteries have been stolen regularly, and the lights themselves have been fired at from an air-gun. Overnight on Monday 20th/Tuesday 21st February one of the lights was set alight, the other was thrown into a hedge, and the signs thrown into the river.
The temporary lights were installed on the single lane Bridge until the completion of a new two lane bridge, the funding of which has been secured with the help of our local MP Maria Caulfield.
Cllr Sam Adeniji, East Sussex County Councillor for Seaford North, said "Removing the lights is the last thing anyone wants since they have proved themselves invaluable. I am working with officers on how repeat occurrences can be prevented. I have proposed a number of options to officers including the installation of CCTV cameras.
"In the meantime if anyone sees suspicious activity around the installation, PLEASE call 999 immediately so that the vandals can be caught."
