The University of Sussex Conservative Society is the only political society at the University affiliated with the Conservative Party. New student members are welcome. More details from the website HERE
Guest speakers are invited, in the past they have included the former Childrens' Minister Tim Loughton MP and Maria Caulfield MP (pictured left). Visits are arranged to Houses of Parliament, including one to the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne. The group campaigns locally for the Conservative Party, raisse money for local Charities and campaigns for Conservatism on campus.
The Port and Policy meetings take place fortnightly and involve debate around two or three motions. This is not nly a political society, it has a strong social side as well. Alongside the fortnightly meetings, there are socials ranging from clubbing and pub crawls to a range of dinners and pub quizzes.
The Society is delighted to have as its Chairman Cllr Steve Bell CBE, the Leader of the Conservative Group. He is pictured with some of our members on a recent visit to Westminster.
